For One Week Only…And The Many After – Spring Offensive Have Big Plans Afoot

Local jagged-riffed 5 piece Spring Offensive had a busy year in 2010; a mini-album; an epic 13-minute single; and extensive touring, but these boys are not ones to rest on the laurels, Oh no. As this year progresses you can expect three physical release singles with A/B sides, plus a remix on each. As well as that, last year’s Pull Us Apart is being released in the US by Seattle-based Burning Building Records, and somewhat from the left-field they are just finalising the details on being included on the soundtrack for a Football sim iPhone app!

However, there are two other big events coming up on planet Spring Offensive. On Tuesday 15th Feb. they are opening for The Go! Team in the main room at the O2 Academy, something that is leaving them “nervous [about a gig] for the first time in a couple of years,” and the day before (Valentine’s Day), they are releasing a brand new acoustic EP.

This quieter-than-usual collection of five songs comes not as a strategic decision but as the organic result of the writing process. The band found themselves writing songs that didn’t quite “translate” to their usual full band sound, and so they left them as they were. The EP isn’t “just [us] sitting in front of two mics…lazy,” instead it draws it influences from artists like Bon Iver and Richard Walters; full rock instrumentation; toned down, made more delicate and intimate. This release includes fan-favourite ‘A Let Down’, and future full band single ‘A Stutter And A Start’, to be released in April. All the songs take on “different lives” come live performances, but the beautiful originals are here to enjoy.

Aside from the content Between Me And You has a lot more to be said about it. Spring Offensive’s plan is to join on the ‘pay-what-you-choose’ bandwagon. They’ve chosen this to give you the music for what you think its worth as thanks to their fans for their support. However, if you choose to give a contribution to the Spring Offensive cause greater than £4, then you will be thanked by having your name credited on the next single; “It’s the least we can do by way of thanks,” as Pelham Groom, the drummer, puts it.

However, you’re gonna have to be quick, the EP will only be online for one week, that’s right one week only. Make sure you grab your copy, via their website (www.springoffensive.co.uk), from Monday (14th Feb.), and keep an eye on what’s heading your way from Spring Offensive!
