Live Preview: Borderville (Upstairs)

With it’s first gig of 2012, Upstairs at the O2 Academy Oxford in conjunction with BBC Introducing in Oxford is back in our lives this Saturday. After a string of outrageously successful gigs throughout the second half of last year, Upstairs took a short post-Christmas break, but it’s back and kicks off (what remains of) the year with a headline slot from vaudevillian punks Borderville.

This months line-up also includes Seb Reynolds’ (Keyboard Choir, Braindead Collective, and the man behind the commendable PinDrop Publicity) new musical vehicle Flights Of Helios, 1950’s Rockabilly throwbacks The Long Insiders, the Rock and Blues inspired The Empty Vessels and some Blues-tinged Indie Rock from Invisible Vegas. All in all, it should be great evening to strap on your dancing pins and jive along to some old fashioned Rock n Roll (expect for aural synth delights of Flights Of Helios, who you could dance to, I guess, but you might need to crack out your most avant-garde moves).

Whilst we’re taking about it, it seems right to mention the line-ups for the next two Upstairs gigs; April’s includes sets from John Bramwell (I Am Kloot), The Lake Poets, Jess Hall, Sonic Rising and Empty White Circles. May’s line-up is a glorious fix of folk-rock including Admiral Fallow, Adam Barnes, The Old Grinding Young, The Yarns and Mariana Magnavita.
