Oxford’s finest exponents of arch indie-rock, Young Knives, have released ‘Vision In Rags’ as the third single from their most recent album Ornaments From The Silver Arcade. The single will be released on September 12th and can be streamed at the bottom of this page. A rather carnivalesque number, the song is full of summery enthusiasm and recorded on an old analogue rhythm generator set to ‘Bossa Nova’. There’s even some quite wondrous celestial backing harmonies just before the final hook kicks in.
The lyrics were done by chopping up the original song lyrics and re-arranging them and gluing them back onto a big piece of paper. Overall the song is superbly optimistic and, unsurprisingly, very catchy. In a recent interview with the guys from Truck Festival, the band hinted that they were unsure about the future and whether there is much left in the tank due to financial limitations. With Truck seemingly going under, it would be a bloody shame if some of Oxford’s better bands started going the same way.
Listen to the track underneath and, if you like it, bloody buy it and support the band! You’ll also be supporting PIAS Entertainment who were recently adversely affected by the riots in London when their distributions factories was set ablaze. So do your bit and support the industry. Thank you!
