New Video: Tame Impala

Australian sludge-mongers Tame Impala have unveiled the video for ‘Elephant’, the first single off of their much anticipated sophomore effort, Lonerism.

Befittingly trippy, the video is fully in keeping with the band’s apparant ethos of ‘If it doesn’t look or sound like its from 1967-75, THEN WE’RE NOT FUCKING DOING IT!’. Nonetheless, they are an excellent band who seemingly find it quite difficult to write a bad tune.

The track is, in itself, a marvel. A swampy, sticky, insistent groove carries it along with the insistence of a small, ultimately peaceful, but nonetheless determined, juggernaut; one that is intent on ramming our ears to buggery with psychedelic rock.

As such, Tame Impala have cleverly exploited this sound and the video bares witness to all sorts of psychedelic, Old Grey Whistle Test-style tomfoolery. Slightly gimmicy, but nonethless fitting, it is very much worth a gander.

Doing a short UK tour soon, Tame Impala continue to ruthlessly keep Wooden Shjips up at night.
