Taken from their Mercury prize nominated Silence Yourself, ‘Marshal Dear’ is the final track on Savages’ ferocious debut LP. The jazz-lounge stagger of ‘Marshal Dear’ is at odds with the rest of the vicious, hedonistic post-punk which populates the rest of the record. A brave choice to close the album, yet possessing all the qualities which made the album so enduring to begin with; anger; sensuality; loneliness.
The video was created by Gergley Wootsch and Savages guitarist Gemma Thompson, inspired by a scene in Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five – a novel about a disillusioned American soldier recounting his experiences of the Second World War and his adventures in time travel.
Meanwhile, Savages will embark on a UK headline tour next week. The tour will include Savages’ biggest UK headline show yet at London’s Forum, following an extensive 23 date North American tour.
