June 6th is momentous day for 20 Century history. 1944: D-Day, 1968: Robert Kennedy is assassinated, 1988: I was born. I think it’s fair to say that each aforementioned event progresses in terms of historical importance, so it only seems natural that a band called Sixth June is going to be a band full of wisdom and appreciation of the past.
The band, a duo hailing from Serbia, certainly has a sound inspired by an earlier period of music. Like many other musicians making tracks in the avant-garde minimalism scene, they take their main inspiration from 1980s European synth bands. Combining obscure textures with danceable rhythms, Sixth June will release their impending EP Back For A Day on May 28th (surely that could have waited an extra nine days!) courtesy of Mannequin Records.
