Wilco Headline Wilderness

Of all the festivals in Oxfordshire this year, it’s Wilderness who win the award for “Best Band In Show”. For Chicago’s alt.country legends Wilco are headlining. The line-up also boasts Spanish jazz instrumentalists Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Oxford folk-pop stars Stornoway, Howe Gelb’s Americana trailblazers Giant Sand, Mackem art-indie band Field Music, space-rockers Spiritualized and many, many more. Tickets currently cost £119 and can be purchased from the festival’s official website.

New Song: Nada Surf

New York power-pop heroes Nada Surf have been around a fair old while now (they have gleefully handing out sugary sweet guitar pop songs since the early 1990s), so it’s good to hear that they aren’t falling short of inspiration. ‘When I Was Young’ sees the band in retrospective mood, looking back over the days of their youth, whilst revelling in a musical maturity which spreads across an epic five minutes of melancholic longing for youthful languor. The track is taken from the band’s impending album The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy.

Filligar @ The Cellar – 07/07/11

Very much rooted in the classic song-writing of acts such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young, Filligar are a band who are clearly very comfortable within their sound and are happy to play to their strengths alone; nothing flash, just performing honest country rock. It’s impossible not to be impressed with them tonight; they not only present themselves as a genuinely bunch of kind-hearted chaps but also have the songs to back it up.

New Video: Ruby Coast

Aurora, Ontario quartet Ruby Coast have released an entertaining, energetic and cleverly mastered new video for their song ‘Stability’. This video is the second that the band have released from their debut album Whatever This Is, which was released back in January this year. Watch it here.
