Brooklyn’s The Antlers appeared on our radar back in 2009 with the release of the album Hospice. The album, released by Frenchkiss Records, was one of the starkest and most moving group of songs released by any artist in years. Detailing the illness and death of the narrators lover, the lyrics tapped into the most doubtful and self-loathing aspect of human personality backed up for a chorus of guitar distortion, feedback and horns. Frontman Peter Silberman’s voice was so impressive and honest to the tale that it was hard to tell whether the concept behind Hospice was fact or fiction!
At last, the band are close to releasing their follow-up effort Burst Apart which will be out on June 13th courtesy of Transgressive Records. You can hear a new song from the album, ‘Parentheses’, right here. Clattering beats, vertiginous dub tension and Silberman’s keening falsetto make this track a tantalising taster for the new record.
