The Scholars are without a doubt, one of the most assured and confident live acts based in Oxford right now. Their shows are delivered with the kind of swagger usually associated with established acts, and it suits their dark, aggressive indie to a tee. The Scholars have never made a secret of their influences, often compared to Editors and Interpol, but with the upcoming release of brand new EP Arrival Departure, it looks as if they are set step into a sound all their own.
For far too long, The Scholars have in many ways remained one of Oxford’s best-kept secrets; their fan base has grown steadily over the last couple of years though and if early live incarnations of their new material is anything to go by, they are set to make plenty more.
To celebrate this release, The Scholars are hosting an EP Launch party on Thursday the 31st at The Regal, which should capture their rich live sound perfectly. Tickets can be purchased in advance for a ridiculousely good £2, which includes support from rising locals Black Hats and Minor Coles. It is also a chance to pick up a very limited physical copy of Arrival Departure.
It is rare that The Regal plays host to local acts in this way, often reserved for tacky club nights and nostalgia ridden 80s throw-backs, so make the most of this opportunity to see an excellent local band off on their way, OMB has a feeling the tickets won’t be so cheap when they return.
